"JJ's Corner - Mit Spaß im Schlamm" (More fun in mud)popcorn

By: Jabari Johnson

Hello again and thanks for tuning in to another addition of JJ’s corner.

First I would like to start off by thanking “Lion Nation” for your support and attendance at the test game against Hildesheim Invaders.
Due to the weather, I know that a lot of you could not make it but I thank you for tuning in the radio and giving us your support via radio at Braunschweig Lions Live Radio…

Last week was a very trying week, because we did not practice much due to the weather and we also did not have a lot to go off on with Hildesheim offense and defense.
But it was not a game of trying to learn everything about our opponent. It was a game that was played to see how far we have came along as a team and how far we need to go to get to where we need to be, heading into the season and our first big test of the season the Stuttgart Scorpions.

Test games are also played to figure out ourselves and who we are as players. Like what I need to work on to better myself as a running back and what other players need to do, to better themselves at their position.

It was still so much fun. I have never really played in a game that the field was basically covered in mud. After the first play of the offensive drive; which was a touchdown pass from Dennis Zimmerman to K. Love, the field was just mud.

By halftime, there basically was no field. But it was so much fun because the moment you get hit and fall onto the ground, you slide from one line to the next, and then you get up and you are completely covered in mud. My jersey when we started was completely white, but by halftime it was almost all brown. The only bad thing about that was that there was not only mud stuck to me but also to the jersey, and it was cold. And I mean freezing cold.

Trust me, with wet mud on you and the jersey and being completely wet from the rain, when that cold air touches you, it was just bad! I truly hope that the fans had fun watching and laughing at what was happening.

So, as practice has begun this week, we started on Tuesday with one mission on are minds. 1st: to get better. 2nd to come together as a team and eliminate the mistakes that where made during the test game, and 3rd: do everything possible to make sure we are ready as a team to go to Stuttgart and come back to BS 1-0.

I think that if we continue to do that, stick together, and always strive to get better, everything we want to accomplish as a team will happen. I hope you all have enjoyed this week’s edition of JJ’s corner.
Tune in next week for the day-by-day practice diary leading up to the BIG GAME next week against the Stuttgart Scorpions. Thanks again and I hope to see you all at the Lions Kick-Off -Party on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
