From Charters Towers to Hughenden external Link & where they had construction work running back in '95 you find SHOWERS today & they are nearly warm even! On we went to Winton external Link, all bitumen now.
Then some 110 km further on to Lark Quarry Environmental Park external Link, where you find the til today only dinosaur stampede world-wide, ca. 93 million years of age. Discovered only in the 60īs, itīs all comfy roofed. A dinosaur up to the hip some 2,60 m high that is chasing down some smaller ones. impressive!

Next morning we went back to the town where Waltzing Mathilda comes from (Winton), then further on to Longreach external Link, running errands & get the car to the "doc". The garage was booked up, but they squeezed us in - which meant waiting the rest of the day - Longreach has only one shopping street. At least we found a thermometer at "Crazy Prices" for $3,00 & and know (again) what the temp is! it lastet over 24 hours now, 29 °C at the moment. waving

From Longreach today to Windorah external Link

Also this road is tarred for the most part now, partially even two lanes (one lane for each direction). In Windorah we hear music blarring from the Pub - again (see. Urangandi).
No, not a new fashion. A crab-race is due today and they wanna get the hype that way. Worked for us, we went in for a VB external Link. After that we went to "our" dune:
Windorah

This is a pic from 1995 - our Holden Commodore fits fine to the spinifex-grass:

Windorah

this time itīs 6ZY416, our Nissan Patrol Long Wheel Base, that goes well in the pic as well:

Windorah

Itīs cloudy, from far away we hear thunder - hopefully it calms down...
